Back To Work Southwest Florida – A Social Community Outreach Initiative

It’s not a secret that Southwest Florida is one of the most economically devastated regions of the country. I believe Cape Coral, Florida was ground zero of the housing bubble that imploded in 2006.  From what the experts say, we’ve hardly seen the end.  Along with folks losing their homes, they’ve also lost their jobs. There really isn’t anything that can be added to this – It kind of speaks for itself.

So, what do you do?  Keep on, keeping on. That’s what you do!  And to do this, sometimes we need help.  That’s where Back To Work Southwest Florida comes in. Community helping community.

Back To Work Southwest Florida

About two months ago, I was speaking with a business owner who during our visit, asked me if I knew anyone with office management experience. Within a few days, I received a call from a friend in need of a job, any job. It was at this time that starting a group came to mind.  I immediately set it up, designed a make-shift logo and began to write some basic group guidelines to support its mission and purpose.

The Back To Work Southwest Florida Facebook Group offers local businesses the opportunity to post employment openings, and the job-seeker or freelancer a way to market themselves to the business community. For free.

On Friday, December 17, 2010,  I opened the group to the public.  Honestly, I’m thrilled by the positive response.  Eric Taubert of Barometer Media was very kind to issue a press release that can be found here and here.

Bigger plans are in place for the initiative – beginning as early as January, schedules for virtual conferences, podcasts, and chat sessions with human resource professionals are in the making.

Check it out. If you are not personally looking for employment or to recruit local talent, perhaps you know someone who is. Go ahead, pay it forward. To request group membership, please visit the Facebook Group at  http://on.fb.me/gcMm1k
